Scandans is a performing group dedicated to the study and presentation of folk dances from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.
Each year, the group selects from its large
repertoire of dances to create performances that feature the music, the dances
and the costumes of each of these Nordic countries.
In each
performance, the dancers strive to present a true ethnic snapshot of the
featured country and to share information on the rich cultural heritage of Scandinavia.

In
2004 Scandans added a Viking presentation
to the repertoire.
Dressed
in authentic recreations of 11th century Viking
garb, the group combines traditional Scandinavian
dances with entertaining information about
Viking culture.

Want to dance with us?
Please keep in
mind that Scandans is a performing group, and its members are expected to
attend rehearsals on a regular basis and to perform whenever possible. Some
travel is necessary.
While it is not necessary to know the entire repertoire nor to have extensive stage experience, newcomers should be proficient in basic dance steps and patterns such as waltz, polka, and pivot turns.
Scandans
usually rehearses on the Fridays before the second and fourth Saturdays
of each month (September to June) from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
